Garth Adam, Traveling
October 19, 2011 | by Skope

This UK born singer/songwriter spent his childhood in Africa and Fiji then eventually settled in Australia. This is where he honed his musical talents playing bass for numerous bands. He eventually stayed focused on his solo career and now with his seventh release a 3 track EP called, Traveling, it certainly is a pleasant display of a musical vacation.
These songs take you on a road less traveled. To a place of curiosity and amazement. There is a good mixture of tempos with driving beats and melodic lyrics that sing you to different places. Each destination broadens your horizons and allows you to put your own story in his scenarios.
His story telling is picturesque in detail. He definitely has a good understanding about what makes a song soar. They are structured with a good balance of knowing when to break the rules to make the story fly. Melodically there is a perfect camaraderie with the music and the lyrics. He obviously has a good sense of prosody. Vocally his voice is as calming as the music itself.
I think Garth Adam is a force of nature. The secret to his sound is he owns it. The CD is only 3 songs which is the only disappointing thing about this project. I would love for him to extend this traveling experience. I want to go further distances with Garth. This is a good start to a music career with longevity. They say a journey is not the beginning or the end but the ride in between. The CD, Traveling is an excellent pass time.
Rebecca Hosking – hoskingrebecca@gmail.com
Rating:

Posted by Skope · Filed Under REVIEWS

Also, you can hear and or download four of my songs on this really good radio station Martha’s Vineyard Radio. They have just added “Hands Across The Border” http://www.mvyradio.com/local_musicafe/#1164482013

Shame I didn’t win a major category as the prizes were pretty good with plenty of cash.
Airplay has picked up a bit for the new EP around the world. I have had airplay requests from places such as Holland and Sweden which are new territories for me. Another great one has been the University of California and Tom Lamberts Indie Music Show (link below). Fingers crossed that I may get on the BBC Indie Music Show in the UK.

I have the CD “Travelling” now for sale as a hardcopy. My special deal until is the last 3 EP’s for AUD$10.00 plus postage and handling. Postage in Australia would be $3 and outside Australia $6. The EP’s are “Travelling”, “Hope, Love, Betrayal, Despair” and “Glue”. Altogether they make up a full album and you get the bonus of Theo’s great artwork.
Another quick update on the new CD. I have started marketing it and as part of that I have had an interview with Bill Everett of Celtica Radio on a podcast if you follow this link. Celtica Radio and Bill have been really great supporters of my music over several years. They are a Welsh based station who can be heard over the net but also live as far away as Amsterdam.http://www.celticaradio.com/podcast.html
This Friday morning Edinburgh time ( 11.05am or 8 pm in Australia) I will be on Leith FM to speak about the Travelling EP. http://tunein.com/radio/Leith-FM-988-s65962/ They have also been great supporter of mine since the Storm in a Teacup release .
If you are a fan of music magazines I have been lucky enough to get a track on the Relix Magazine CD for the July August 2001 edition (Widespread Panic on the cover). This magazine is available online and also they do a print run of 100,000 which is mainly available in the US but can be bought online anywhere. They decided to use the track “The Distance” from my last EP. http://www.relix.com/

A few other college stations in the US are coming on board and so far the feedback on the songs has been pretty positive.
Just a quick mention on my recent travels which will be my current excuse for my awful lack of regular updates on the music stuff. IF you want an interesting off the beaten track kind of place to travel to I would recommend Tropea in Calabria. An amazing town! We were there to help Dave and Joanna set up the house little bit and eat and drink wine 99% the rest of the time.

The three songs on this one were all recorded at Linear Studios in Annandale Sydney with Melvin Tree as the producer and Brody Green as the tracking engineer.
I was ably assisted by Theo Katsantoni on drums, Brendan O’Brien on keyboards and vocals and Dave Kelly on vocals. The sleeve was designed by Theo Katsantoni using the front cover illustration by Gordon Davies from his 1962 book Dean’s Gold Medal Book of World Travel. The back cover illustration was drawn by my favourite 6 year old artist named Ella Adam. The songs are available now on iTunes and other good internet retail sites. If you are after a copy you can touch and feel and spin around the room if you so desire, it will be available at the end of July.
